SJC History
San Jose Construction Co., Inc.’s story traces back to the early 1950’s, when Santa Clara Valley was known for its beautiful orchards and canning industry. John Di Manto, a San Jose native and highly experienced superintendent with the vision of starting his own construction company; he realized his opportunity with the demand for apartment buildings in downtown San Jose near San Jose State College. John forged a path that would lead him to found San Jose Construction and Development Company. He built many multi-tenant apartment buildings and custom homes in the San Jose and Monterey Bay Areas.
In the late 1960’s and early 1970’s, John’s interests would focus more specifically on land acquisition and development throughout the Northern California region, where he has crafted many successful business ventures for long established California landowners. John created his own developments and those of other landowners in the master planning and re-zoning of their properties, including Hacienda Business Park in Pleasanton and Dublin Land Company property in Dublin. He also developed multiple exclusive residential lot subdivisions in Saratoga and Monte Sereno and expanded his areas of interest to include residential subdivisions in Danville, San Ramon, and Auburn.
In the early 1970’s, John continued actively pursuing the Land Development business while his son, Patrick Di Manto was cultivating a professional career of his own. Patrick was gaining extensive experience as a Project Manager and Marketing Director for a large and notable commercial builder. Patrick earned a highly respected reputation among the brokers, developers and end-users of ‘early’ Silicon Valley for his marketing expertise. He became a major contributor and talented leader in the company’s growing success. Eventually, Patrick’s desire to expand his professional experience and lead a team of his own would drive him to the next chapter of his career.
In 1984, Patrick and John Di Manto joined together to re-structure San Jose Construction Co., Inc. to focus on the growing demand for R&D buildings in the expanding Silicon Valley high tech industry. Their objective was to become a leader in the Silicon Valley and Northern California building industry. Patrick became President and led the business’s day to day operations and developed strong business relationships with clients, brokers, subcontractors, and the high tech industry. Both John and Patrick would guide SJC to iconic success over the next 22 years.
In 2006, Patrick's premature passing at the young age of 52 became a catalyst that would reaffirm John and the company's commitment to continue his dream. In 2007, SJC was rated the # 1 Largest General Contractor in the Silicon Valley, proof of the tenacity and devotion of SJC's team.
In memory of our beloved Patrick, San Jose Construction Co., Inc. continues its legacy and celebrates over 50 years of building excellence under the leadership of John Di Manto, President of SJC, managing daily operations.
